ROAD TRIP PLANNING!

Helmet Grease is planning it’s First Annual Helmet Grease Road tour which kicks off Tuesday May 26th!

We are driving cross country starting in Charlotte, North Carolina and ending up in Hermosa Beach, California! Our plan is to drive to Nashville, Memphis and then head over to Oklahoma City to pick up the famous Route 66. We will be stopping along the way at every Adult Store we see to introduce our products and more importantly meet the essential people who keep our industry sliding along while the rest of us get to stay at home and enjoy the products they sell.

Before you pull out…of the driveway, it is best to have a plan.  Create a plan that gets you there in the time allotted but also is flexible enough to spend more time in locations that require more exploring than you anticipated. Remember what Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.”

Here’s some helpful tips to plan your next road trip.

1.      Create a route that not only gets you there in the allotted time, but hits all those bucket list destinations along the way

2.      Food can get expensive on trips, especially at gas stations and truck stops. So pack the car with your favorite snacks and beverages ahead of time which will save  you money for that nice dinner you want to have at that famous restaurant you’ve always wanted to dine at.

3.      If you are bringing the favorite family member, your pet, make sure you’ve got all the supplies you need; wee wee pads, favorite food, blanky and bed. Also, make sure where you are staying is pet friendly.

4.      Have your vehicle checked out by your mechanic. Check the oil, fluid and air pressure. Make sure that spare tire has air and that you actually know how to change a spare if you need to. Or, make sure your AAA membership is current.

5.      There are multiple Apps and websites to help you plan your trip. Here are a few: www.roadtrippers.com, Waze, Hotel Tonight, GasBuddy, and Spotify. Music is very important for a road trip. My rule for music is driver’s preference.

6.      Check the weather every morning.

7.      Make sure parks and sites are open and note the opening and closing hours.

8.      If you have points, use them. What are you saving them for? I do a little cost benefit analysis; the cost of the hotel room vs. using points. If the room is cheap, I pay for the room thus adding to my points. If I want to splurge and get a swanky hotel room, I use the points.

9.      Plan to stay somewhere that is a little out of your comfort zone. You can do anything for ONE night. Try glamping, a cabin, or even camping.

10.   Try to combine pit stops with gas stops which saves time for more important stops. Keep an eye on that gas gauge.

11.   Rest areas are a great way to stop stretch your legs, have a picnic lunch, let the dog run and most are very nice.

12.   If possible, try to keep your daily drive time to an average of six hours. Try and stop every two hours. You don’t want to be too exhausted when you arrive to enjoy yourself.

13.   If you have kids, leave them at home with their grandparents. Spend some quality time with each other and reconnect.

Hope this helps! Have a great Thursday. We’ve almost made it  through another week!
